Choose plant lights Step 2: Simple estimation, evaluate what performance you need plant lights

If you can roughly know what performance you want plant lights, there is a high probability that they will not be pit. Just like knowing that you need a Wuling Light van to pull goods, you will never be fooled to buy a Buick GL8 commercial vehicle, performance cognition is very important. Through the following three, you can roughly understand the performance of the plant lamp you need.

● (1) Estimate how bright your plant lights need to be. There are two dimensions to evaluating the intensity of a plant lamp. One is PPFD, the other is PPF, PPFD is the concept of optical density related to area and position, PPF is the concept of the total amount of light, related to the basic physical properties of the lamp. The average user has a difficult understanding of PPFD. For the sake of simplicity, to estimate how much light you need, we can evaluate PPF.

The evaluation method of PPF is very simple PPF=PPFD X area used, where the unit of area used is square meters. A simple example, my balcony to grow vegetables, there are 2 square meters of area need irradiation. According to Step 1, it can be found that the PPFD range required by vegetables is 200-300, I take the middle value PPFD-250, then I need the plant lamp PPF=250 X 2=500μmol/S. The total brightness I need is PPF-500, then I can buy a lamp with a light intensity of PPF-500 or buy several lamps plus PPF is 500. As for how to choose, mainly depends on the price and installation. The price is easy to understand, and the installation level will evaluate the convenience of operation and the uniformity of irradiation on the line, and generally the multi-light will be more uniform than the single light. This is the same as the choice of installing a high-power main light or N small-power panel lights at home.

● (2) Assess how large a plant lamp is suitable for your environment. For the evaluation of this size, the limit value of the length, width and height can be generally evaluated. For example, if my balcony is 1 meter long, the limit of the length of the plant lamp that I buy is 1 meter, and those that exceed this length cannot be bought. Another example, for example, my planting area is 0.2 meters wide, then it is not recommended to buy plant lamps with a width/diameter of more than 0.2 meters, although the excess part can be installed, but the excess part is outside the planting area, this part of the light is wasted. If you want to save some electricity, to make more efficient use of plant lights, there is a tip to share with you.

The illumination area of the plant lamp falls as far as possible in your growing area, which is the most economical. Most of the conventional plant lamps on the market are about 120° luminous Angle (except for those with clear marks for other luminous angles), as long as the suspension height is determined, its irradiation area can be roughly calculated.
● (3) Evaluate what hard properties your plant lamp needs. This one varies from person to person, such as whether you need timing function, whether you need adjustable lifting function, whether you need higher waterproof performance, whether you need automatic opening or intelligent controllable function. There is an absolute truth to share with you! The more general functions, the more expensive it must be, and the choice of what is really needed is good. For example, if you need to turn the function on and off regularly, add a timing switch to the plug.

Do the above steps, you know how bright you need, about what size, with what performance of the lamp. With these clear needs to buy, can help you pick a more suitable plant lamp.
