Highway tunnel lighting facilities can improve the road surface condition in the tunnel, improve the visual environment in the tunnel, reduce driver fatigue, and help improve the tunnel capacity to ensure traffic safety. Common equipment in highway tunnels are LED tunnel lights, electrodeless tunnel lights, sodium tunnel lights.

The “JTG/ TD70/2-01-2014 Design Rules for Highway Tunnel Lighting” has the following requirements for the setting conditions of highway tunnel lighting at all levels:

1. The length L > 200m highway tunnel, first-class highway tunnel should be set up lighting.

2. The optical long tunnel of the expressway and the optical long tunnel of the first-class highway with the length of 100m < L≤200m should be equipped with lighting.

3. Secondary highway tunnels with length L > 1000m should be equipped with lighting; Secondary highway tunnels whose length is 500m ≤ L≤1000m should be lit. The third and fourth grade highway tunnels shall be determined according to the actual situation.

(4) For tunnels with pedestrian needs, lighting facilities that meet the needs of pedestrians should be set up according to the length of the tunnel and environmental conditions.

5. Sight induction facilities should be set up in tunnels without lighting.

The one-way traffic tunnel lighting can be divided into entrance lighting, transition lighting, middle lighting, exit lighting, approach lighting outside the tunnel and dimming facilities near the entrance.

Two-way traffic tunnel lighting can be divided into entrance lighting, transition lighting, middle lighting, approach lighting outside the tunnel and dimming facilities near the entrance.

The layout of the lighting fixture should be in the form of the center line, the side deviation form of the center line, and the form of staggered and symmetrical on both sides can also be used. The enhanced lighting fixtures in the entrance section and the exit section should be laid within 10m from the top of the tunnel entrance.
