Both architecture and stage design have the common characteristics of manipulating and transforming space to achieve specific purposes, and many stage design masters have an architectural background.

George Siping is an international choreographic master with architectural background. In the mid-1980s, Siping officially began his stage design career, and his works such as “The Ring of Nibelungen”, “War and Peace”, “Oedipus the King” and “Don Juan” have become classic works of contemporary opera stage.
George Siping’s work has a strong sense of volume, which undoubtedly comes from his architectural background. He attaches great importance to referring to all means of artistic expression and historical elements of different periods, but he believes that the most important element is undoubtedly the performance space.
Xiping’s understanding of stage design is a complex, comprehensive and creative art form. The three-dimensional space environment that can be perceived on the stage is endowed with the power of mystery and implication by the upcoming performance. He uses architecture, sculpture, painting, poetry, music to shape his work, but most importantly, to convey the viewer’s free and bold imagination.
In addition to stage design, Xiping is also involved in film and television design. His sculptures were featured in the 2002 Venice Biennale, co-director, script creative, and visual director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
